Progress on Project

I wanted to give an update on my class project. The children are enjoying our project so much. I have met with each group twice since we started and have only heard positive comments. I have had to correct a few issues within pairs but overall things have been a huge success. The students are starting to ask their partners when they have a problem instead of coming straight to me. I am seeing students taking responsibility for their own work. Their writing has dramatically improved since they have to read and share with their partner. I am totally amazed with how these first graders are responding and improving with this project.

  1. That is very good. Students should take responsibility in their work. If teachers start as early as first grade I feel as though it would not be so hard when they are older.

  2. I agree completely Jamie! If we as teachers expect and believe our students can become autonomous then that is exactly what they will become...way to get that accountability started!! The partnership is great to get it rolling. The individual accountability will begin to increase and get even more exciting!! The students' second grade teachers should love you for doing this project!

  3. My class is enjoying this project so much just knowing that they are in control. I have let them take over the project and tried to stay out of it as much as possible. I had to remind them that they only have just three weeks left until we say lights-camera-action because they are getting so involved with it. They have learned to work together in communicating with each other and problem solving. It sounds like first grade likes this project as much as sixth grade does.

  4. We live in the digital age. All of the devises we use are wonderful. I sometimes wonder “How did I survive without a cell phone?” But I believe we are losing some of our interpersonal skills. “Ask three before me” reinforces those interpersonal skills students need, and in the process, they become independent learners. Keep up the good work.
